Wentzl, named after its founder Jan Wentzl, is located in the southwest end of Krakow Old Town Main Square (Rynek Glowny). In 1792, Jan Wentzl opened a restaurant bearing his name and in 2000 a hotel with the same name was opened.

Hotel Wentzl offers 18 rooms, 6 on each floor, with each room offers a distinct and unique design. The hotel offers the front-row seat to one of the best view in town; Krakow Old Town Main Square, St. Mary’s Church, the Clock Tower and the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice) right outside your window.

Rooms on the 2nd floor are more classic; with exposed bricks and wooden ceiling. The marble-floor bathroom are modern that includes modern amenities like hair-dryer, cosmetic mirrors, tubs, etc. Rooms on the 4th floor are more modern. No two rooms (or experience for that matter) at this hotel are the same. The service is excellent. Friendly and helpful staff will make you feel right at home with their attentive care.

Stalowe Magnolie – Trendy And Sassy

Stalowe Magnolie, Steel Magnolia in English, is an uppity establishment around the Main Square in Krakow. It’s located right on the outskirt of the main square, next to Cien Klub on Jana Street.

It probably has the best live jazz performance in Krakow. You need to ring the bell to gain an access to the club. Don’t let it intimidate you however. The doorman is normally friendly, but only if you dress well. Sneakers, shorts, sleeveless are a no-no for this place.

The interior blends a colorful wall with iron sculptures on the ceiling above the bar. There is a VIP area at the back with a bed sitting. Gaining an access to it might be a bit of a challenge. The live music is outstanding.The drink list is pretty extensive and you definitely need to try the house-special Stalowe Magnolie. Price is on the high end compared to other establishments in the area but the service and the experience will be more than make up for it.

Cieplarnia – Bracka Hidden Gem

This is probably one of a few places in Krakow where you can have a nice conversation with your partner without having to choke in smoke or drown in noise. It’s located on the narrow street of Bracka on the south end of the the main square. The pub is located at the back of a building. There is a signage in front of the building, except if you are not local, you probably wouldn’t know what it is.

You enter the building and walk through a narrow corridor that will lead you to a small courtyard patio. The place itself is not very big. The layout is a bit odd. It spots an L-shaped seating arrangement with the musical instruments located in the middle; dividing the place into two distinct seating areas. One area features the chairs seating and the other features the bench seating.

This place is very charming and it feels personal and intimate. It features live jazz music on the weekend. I have had the pleasure of visiting this place on numerous occasion as I lived around the block from this establishment. If you happened to be in the area during the summer, get there early to enjoy a nice cold beer (or as the local calls it “piwo”) and a good company.
